August 19, 2008 | According to a recent survey by Bankrate, Inc. Hawaii ranked a respectable 20th nationally in Mortgage closing cost. Pinning average closing costs for Hawaii real estate mortgages at $3,134, Hawaii's costs are just slightly above the national average of $3,118; an overall 14% increase from a year prior. For comparison, the lowest cost state, North Carolina, came in at a $2,692 average, while the highest, New York, averaged $4,015. Bankrate attributes this nationwide cost increase to lenders now performing more time consuming appraisal processes than in the past...
