MauiHomeSales.com - Lahaina, West Maui Kicks Off This Year's Seasonal Event
June 16, 2008 | Maui residents and visitors are blessed to be in the center of the world's "Salad Bowl" of cultures, particularly those of the Pacific Islands and Asia. The summer months offer several opportunities to get in a taste of each.
Obon--a Japanese festival celebrating the souls of ancestors', similar to the Mexican "el Dia de los Muretos" -- is off to a new season on Maui. Lahaina Shingon Mission in West Maui kicked off the Obon season last weekend: This weekend's service will be held on 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14th at the Puunene Nichiren Mission, 9 Ani St. in Kahului. Music, food and dance begin at 8 p.m.
