Whalers Village in Kaanapali presents the 19th Annual Maui Onion Festival--a benefit for Habitat for Humanity--and admission is FREE!

Kaanapali Real Estate Maui Join in the fun on Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 from 9am - 9pm. Celebrity chefs Fred DeAngelo, D. K. Kodama, James McDonald David Paul, and Russell Siu will honor the Maui Kula Onion--a signature crop on the Valley Isle--in a judged cooking contest. Hawaii Real Estate Mortgage Costs

According to a recent survey by Bankrate, Inc. Hawaii ranked a respectable 20th nationally in Mortgage closing cost. Pinning average closing costs for Hawaii real estate mortgages at $3,134, Hawaii's costs are just slightly above the national average of $3,118; an overall 14% increase from a year prior. For comparison, the lowest cost state, North Carolina, came in at a $2,692 average, while the highest, New York, averaged $4,015. Bankrate attributes this nationwide cost increase to lenders now performing more time consuming appraisal processes than in the past...

Culinary Olympics

“Maui Chefs Present...”—West Maui’s 16th annual culinary event—will be held on Friday, Sept. 5th at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua’s pavilion.

The theme of this year’s event is “Culinary Olympics: The Road to the Ritz” and will feature 24 Gold Medalist Fare gourmet dishes from 12 of Maui’s premiere chefs as well as live entertainment by Grammy Award nominee Raiatea Helm, fine wines and beers, dancing, and a silent auction. Tickets are now available for $140 per person, and after Aug. 10th any remaining tickets will sell for $150. This event generally sells out early.
